  24. Changes make MacDose more useful in large classrooms and with television display.  It is now possible to show only the tracks of electrons, which makes it easier to understand the depth-dose distribution.

  26. Larger Screen

All three windows now open to the full screen size on the small-screen machines, and to nearly full screen size on machines with larger screens.  (On the larger-screen machines, a region is left uncovered on the right so that disk icons are not covered.)  These larger screens are automatically scaled to fit the page when the results are printed.  (Printing now requires two pages.  The first contains the simulation and the graphs; the second contains the printed numerical results.)

  30. Thicker Tracks

  32. One of the options in the Set Parameters dialog box is Thicker Tracks.  When set, it causes the photon and electron tracks to be drawn at twice normal thickness.  This makes them easier to see when projecting the screen on television or using MacDose in a classroom.

  36. An option to Show Electrons Only has been provided in the Set Parameters dialog box.  This makes it easier to see how electron distributions change with energy or when secondary photons interact.

  39. System 7, System 8, PPC Compatible

  41. MacDose runs properly under Systems 6, 7, and 8 and on Power PC platforms.  This includes the ability to run in the background.  MacDose does not support Apple Events.

  43. Exercise 8.  Subsequent Interactions

The Manual does not make clear the fact that the simulation when subsequent interactions are taken into account is only approximate.  For ease of viewing and for speed of calculation, all photon interactions take place in the plane of the display, though the angle of the emerging photon with respect to the direction of the incident photon is correct.  As a result, after a few interactions, the position of the scattered photon is not correct.
